NYU Journalism is awarding competitive conference grants, that will cover early bird conference registration, round trip travel within the US, and hotel fair to current NYU graduate and undergraduate students seeking to participate in NABJ, NAHJ, and AAJA, IJA conferences.
The grants are designed to cover conference fees and other conference-related expenses.
Eligibility
NYU graduate and undergraduate students. To be eligible to apply, graduate students must be enrolled in an NYU Journalism masters program, whereas undergraduate students should be declared journalism majors or minors. Priority will be given to students who have not yet received a conference grant in the past. Students must also have plans to be enrolled NYU Journalism students in January 2025.
Application and Deadline
For the Spring students can apply for a Conference Grant in advance of:
- Friday, December 6, 2024.
All proposals should be submitted by 11:59 PM EST on the application deadline. You will be asked to submit a proposal with a budget, which will be judged by a faculty committee.

The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University invites applications for the Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award, to be awarded in Spring 2025. In filling out the application below, please be succinct but specific and answer every question. The proposal deadline is February 19th, 2025, with a decision anticipated in late April. The completed project must be delivered no later than December 31, 2025. The Institute expects the completed work to appear in an English-language publication of strong reputation. Ineligible to apply are NYU affiliates, NYU graduates with degrees dated within 2 years of the submission deadline, and journalists holding staff positions at established media outlets that are in a position to fund such projects on their own. The award may include NYU I.D. and online and onsite NYU Bobst Library research and reference privileges—see note in Competition Terms of Agreement and Eligibility Requirements. The monetary award will be distributed in the following way:
- $6,000 upon announcement of the winning proposal; $3,000 upon evidence of substantial progress (usually a first draft); and $3,500 upon completion and acceptance by the Award committee.
